Good to know

I don't know why this has been so heavy on my mind, but I feel like I have to let it out!  Water is a chemical.  Wait, what did she just say?!!  Yes, water is a chemical.  It has a formula. It is the hydrogen bonds in water that allow our natural hair to do all the wonderful things it is capable of doing.  For instance, one of a natty's favorite staple styles is a twist out, and it is the good old hydrogen bonds at work.  You may have also noticed that you get different results from manipulating the hair while wet v. dry.  Here's why...A wet set is an example of a physical change that results from breaking and reforming the hydrogen bonds in the hair.  Wetting the hair breaks the hydrogen bonds (albeit temporary) and permits the hair to be stretched and wrapped on rollers, twisted, plaited, etc.  Drying the hair removes the water and reforms the hydrogen bonds in their new shape.  These changes are only temporary and once the hair is wet or exposed to high humidity, the hair goes back to it's natural state. (<---Basic info from any standard cosmetology book.) That's why your fly twist out on the way to the club, looks totally different after you've been whipping your hair back and forth in a humid (read sweaty) environment...lol
